University of Sheffield World Week

The University of Sheffield has recently held their World Week which spans from the 22nd of February until the 2nd of March. Hosted by the International Students' Committee, World Week 2014 includes a series of events such as International Language Festival, World Week Parade, One World Cafe and many others. BruSheff has participated in the Language Festival, World Week Stalls and World Week Parade.

During the Language Festival, BruSheff has sent it 2 volunteers from the 1st Years, Nadiah Yakub and Izza Rosli. At the festival, the two people have volunteered in teaching attendees to the class Brunei's own Malay dialect. They at first gave some background about Brunei Darussalam and then continues to explain the main differences of Bruneian Malay and the Standard Malay.

Another activity to which BruSheff has participated in to be able to enrich comers with facts about Brunei was having a stall at the Students' Union. The committee had called upon volunteers to help out at the stall and as well as to provide dry food and biscuits. The stall was decorated with an array of pictures displaying Brunei's towns and focus in ecotourism. A video was also played to display one of the National Day celebrations. Aside from providing kuihs and dry food to the comers, we also offered comers to try out traditional dresses; the baju kurung and the cara Melayu.

More to come with the World Week Parade!
