Brunei Sheffield Students’ Society Constitution

1. The aims and objectives of the society:

a) To promote studying in the University of Sheffield to Bruneians and serve as an official representative for the university.

b) To serve as a focal point for current and prospective Bruneian students studying in Sheffield.

c) To monitor students' welfare and education and promote an active environment for its members through social activities and gatherings.

d) To enhance awareness about Brunei Darussalam by promoting the Bruneian tradition and culture to other students of different nationalities and backgrounds.

2. Membership of the society:

a) Membership of the society is opened to all individuals regardless of nationality, race, religion or social background who take an interest in the society.

b) Membership fee shall be decided at the start of every new academic year by the committee.

c) Existing members are required to renew their membership fees at the start of every new academic year.

d) Membership fees are non-refundable.

3. Annual General Meeting and Election:

a) The annual general meeting for the society is to be held at the first month of every new academic year.

b) Election of new committee is to be held during the annual general meeting via a voting process.

4. The Committee:

a) President
He or she holds the overall responsibility of the society. The president has the active role of ensuring the aims and objectives of the society are met with help from the committee and its members. The president acts as a chairperson in every meeting making sure every decision is agreed by the committee and outcomes of the meeting is informed to the society members.

b) Vice President
He or she has the responsibility to assist the president in the running of the society and serve as the acting president in cases when the president is unable to attend or initiate events.

c) Secretary
He or she has the responsibility for the general administration of the society. The secretary is in charge of preparing the minutes of meetings and keeping the society records.

d) Treasurer
He or she has the responsibility of managing the financial accounts of the society. The treasurer is responsible for keeping records of the expenditure of the society and serve as a financial advisor for the society.

e) Logistics and Planning Officer
He or she has the responsibility of implementing planned events by assessing the logistic requirements of the events which includes the venue, equipments needed and etc. The logistics and planning officer is also in charge of keeping the equipments of the society.

f) Social and Welfare Officer
He or she has the responsibility of assisting members of the society in dealing with personal issues and serve as a focal point for prospective students of Sheffield.

g) Sports Officer
He or she has the responsibility of encouraging sports activities in the society by arranging regular sports sessions. The sports officer shall also be aware of other sports activities outside of Sheffield and shall consult the committee for participation.

h) Senior Religious Officer
He or she has the responsibility of managing the religious activities of the society. The senior religious officer is responsible for keeping track of the Islamic calendar and shall consult the committee on proposed activities. He or she is expected to cooperate with the religious officer during such events and must guide him/her if necessary.

i) Religious Officer
He or she has the responsibility of managing the religious activities of the society. The religious officer is responsible for keeping track of the Islamic calendar and shall consult the senior religious officer and committee on proposed activities. He or she is expected to cooperate with the senior religious officer in such events.

j) Webmaster/Information Officer
He or she has the responsibility of keeping members of the society informed of new information and forthcoming events via newsletter and the society’s website of which is managed and continually developed by the webmaster.

k) Year Representative
He or she has the responsibility to serve as a voice for their respective year and bring forward any issues during committee meetings.

l) Sheffield Hallam Representative
He or she has the responsibility to serve as a voice for students from Sheffield Hallam University and bring forward any issues during committee meetings.
