BruSheff Society

On the 9th of November a few Brusheff members have joined a charity event held by the University of Sheffield Islamic Circle (USIC) called the Sheffield vs Snowdon trek. Each participants have to raise 200 pounds nad hike through Mt. Snoedon, the highest mountain in Wales. Money donated will proceed to charities for the needy in Syria.  The participants from Brusheff are namely Yusof Fadli bin Haji Sidek, Siti Alai Shazrinah binti Haji Shazali, Siti Rafizah binti Norudin Sarah Haji Abdul Mutallif. Alhamdulillah they have successfully climbed Mt Snowdon and raised over 800 pounds. Hopefully this would inspire more people to join in activities for a great cause and hopefully the proceeds will help aid Syria in their struggle.

On the morning of the 2nd of November, Brusheff has held their 2nd Amazing Race as part of their freshers event. The event started from Weston Park and checkpoints were spread out throughout the Sheffield University campus and city centre. The checkpoints include the students union, peace gardens, Sheffield Hallam University and the train station. Teams were mixed up so that people from different years and disciplines were able to get to know each other throughout the race. The race ended at Weston Park as the final destination and the award ceremony was held there too. Hopefully this event would develop closer bonds to the Bruneians living in Sheffield whether they were participants or volunteers.

Salam and hello, BruSheff is proudly announcing that the 3rd Brunei Yorkshire Games (BYG 2013) has resurfaced again this year with its casual yet competitive game; dodgeball. It is once again open to all Bruneian Societies in the UK with team members possessing the BSU card. It will set at the same place where the 2nd BYG in 2012 was held which is at the Concorde Sports Centre, Sheffield. The tournament itself will be on the 23rd of November, 2013. In early October, BruSheff has organised an event from which the newcomers are gathered around in hopes to get them familiarized with the Bruneian faces around Sheffield. Set on the 5th of October at Weston Park we organised games to act as a framework where people get to know the general members. The newcomers include the first year undergraduates and the postgraduates; mainly Masters students.  On the 19th of November, we have also organised an 'Aidil Adha celebration from which the Muslim students of BruSheff have congregated to a Muslim Community Centre. A religious speech was given by both the current and former religious officer for BruSheff. Afterwards, the congregants gather around for the food catered. The 8th of June marks the day the BruSheff committee had set up an appreciation dinner for the leavers this year. Set in a local community centre at Broomspring Lane just a block away from the Students Union building, the committee had 65 in total from a handful of leavers as well as guests from different years.  The Poster for the Event The event had been set up with live performances from BruSheff's very renown and talented singer, Amin Nordin, who has recently performed a phenomenal job with University of Sheffield's SUPAS at their recent debut. Games were also set up to liven up the guests and also to accommodate the guests' time with some interactivity between each other. A video was also set up by the committee and then played just after the dinner. The video was a compilation of interview videos of some of the leavers. On the 5th March, BruSheff organized a Solat Hajat as the exams prior our Summer term is nearing. It was also held at the Spectrum Centre. The solat was led by the guest of honour, Ustaz Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam, the religious officer of BSU. One of the programs also included was a recitation of the Holy Qur'an by one of the first year student in the University. In light of the recent successful charity event, BruSheff has readied a documented footage during the event. Recently, BruSheff has participated in a collaborative charity event for Bruneian Societies within the UK. Other Bruneian Societies include BruLeics, BruBath, BruStol, BruWick, LufBru, BruManch, BruKeele, BruSton and groups from Reading, London and Durham. The Charity Spring Cleaning Clothes Drive is organized by Syukrina Roselan. Dk. Nur Qamarina Pg Luba, the vice president, has been delegated the person-in-charge for BruSheff. The BruSheff committee has appointed dates or time-slots for people to come in and distribute their donations, specifically the 14th & 17th of April, and Opal 2 common room as it's location. The committee has also considered for the people who could not come to any of these dates, they could instead distribute it privately at different time and location. This will enable people who lives rather far away to easily give in their donations. After the handing in of the donations, BruSheff has received:  142 shirts,  56 pants,  31 jackets,  23  pair
