Salam and greetings from Brusheff, It is our pleasure to announce that Brunei-Sheffield Society (BruSheff) will be hosting the 2nd Brunei Yorkshire Games (BYG) on the 17th of November 2012 in Sheffield. Previously, BYG was only open for Bruneian societies in Yorkshire, but this year we are happy to invite all the Bruneian societies in the UK to take part in the games. BYG will only concentrate on a DODGE BALL tournament. From the previous year's positive response, we are confident that societies will be keen to participate again this year. BruSheff held its first ever Amazing Race on the 13th of October with over 30 participants and 20 volunteers. Participants were randomly allocated into groups of 3 and 4 to complete the tasks at each checkpoint. There are 10 checkpoints spread around Sheffield's notable landmarks; such as the union of both universities in Sheffield, the Muslim Welfare House in Goodwin and the Sheffield train station. The groups were asked to complete tasks like singing the national anthem, finding the Bruneian with the Afro and eating half a loaf of bread within 5 minutes. BruSheff held its first gathering for the 2012/2013 academic year in Sheffield on the 29th of October 2012. The event was attended by the both new and current members of the society. The aim of the gathering was to get the Bruneians in Sheffield to mingle and get to know each other. There will be an ice breaking event for the juniors with the seniors within the society this upcoming Saturday. The event will be filled with ice breaking games for everyone to get together. Details about the upcoming event will also be announced there. As the exams are coming, BruSheff held a sembahyang hajat. The event also included a motivational talk by Ustaz Haji Sammali Bin Haji Adam, the religious officer of the Brunei Student Unit based in London. The Brunei Society in Sheffield, Brusheff in short, had recently joined the 40th Anniversary of the International Cultural Evening (ICE) 2012. Brusheff participated in a competition which allowed the international societies to showcase their cultural roots through a short performance. Date : 5th May 2012 Venue :  Octagon Centre, University Of Sheffield Including the Bruneian students currently residing in Sheffield Hallam University, over 25 members of the Brusheff re-enacted the famous legend ' Nakhoda Manis ' through a dance, silat, play and choir. The event also included fashion show where the international students studying in the University of Sheffield had the opportunity to exhibit the traditional clothes of their culture. The British High Commission is pleased to announce that the Digital Scrapbook Competition has been extended until Friday 29 June 2012 . The Digital Scrapbook Competition gives Bruneians studying in the UK a chance to voice their opinions about British education and talk about their experiences of living in the UK in a short 3 minute video clip. Prizes includes an iPhone 4s , an iPad, an iPod Touch , an iPod Nano and an iPod shuffle ! The prizes won’t go to the most “professional” production, but rather to the film which most powerfully conveys a personal experience of education in the UK. This year, BruManch hosted the Pertandingan Lagu-Lagu Dakwah, in conjunction with the 28th National Day of Brunei Darussalam, for the 2nd year running in collaboration with BSUnion. The competition was open to all Bruneian societies registered under the Union and Bruneians currently residing in the UK and EIRA. Date: 14 April 2012M / 22 Jamadil Awal 1433H Venue: Friends Meeting House, Central Manchester BruSheff sent 2 gr oups, one of each gender, to participate in the competition. The female group calling themselves ‘ Wardhatul Humaira’ consisted of 10 people where as the male group,calling themselves ‘ Miftahul Jannah’ also consisted of 10 people including 2 imports from Leeds and Manchester. Alhamdullilah, Wardhatul Humaira and Miftahul Jannah won 4 th and 3 rd place respectively. BruLeeds hosted the Yorkshire Khatam Al-Quran for this year in collaboration with five other Brunei societies from Sheffield (BruSheff), York (BruYork), Newcastle (BNS), Bradford (BruBrad) and Hull (BruHull).
